A lot of adjustments have been made over the past two months due to coronavirus. The state’s deadline for second-half personal property taxes is not one of them.
Second-half taxes are due May 10. Payments can be made over the phone, by mail, online and the courthouse drop box, but there is a $1.50 service charge for payment by checking account and a 2.5-percent fee for debit and credit card transactions for residents processing payments by phone or online.
Online payments can be handled at https://www.kansas.gov/propertytax. Payers need their statement number and taxpayer ID — and they need to leave one zero out of the ID. Residents who do not have their statement or ID number can go online to www.lyoncounty.org under the Treasurer Office tab or call the office at 341-3255 for that information.
For motor vehicle tag renewals, residents can again use phone, mail, online and the drop box options, and again there will be a $1.50 service charge for payment by checking account and a 2.5-percent fee for debit and credit card transactions if residents are renewing by phone. Residents using www.ikan.ks.gov for renewals will pay a $2 processing fee per vehicle as well as a $1 flat fee for e-check or a 2.5-percent fee for debit or credit cards.
Vehicle transactions have a 60-day extension once the Kansas state of emergency is lifted — currently May 14.
Lyon County Treasurer Sharon Gaede will have more information during KVOE’s Newsmaker segment at 7:15 am Tuesday.
