Strong thunderstorms brought small hail, brief heavy rain and scattered power outages to parts of the KVOE listening area early Sunday.
A line of storms prompted several severe thunderstorm warnings affecting Lyon, Chase and Greenwood counties, but weather reports were isolated after the storms cleared the area:
*KVOE studios: 0.20 inches of rain
*Emporia Municipal Airport: 0.40 inches of rain
*Cottonwood Falls: Dime-sized hail, 1.1 inches of rain
*Hamilton: Wind gusts estimated at 75 mph pulled down several power poles and trees. Damage to outbuildings also reported.
*Hartford: 0.35 inches of rain
*Piedmont: Quarter-sized hail
Several power outages resulted from the storms. After Evergy reported small outages in Olpe, west of Hamilton, outside Virgil, near Neal and both northwest and southeast of LeRoy around 9 am, more outages are in effect around Neal as of noon but the Olpe outage has been cleared. Around 20 customers in total have no power as of Sunday afternoon.
Sunday should be a dry and pleasant day with highs in the mid-70s. There is a chance of strong storms Monday morning and early afternoon.
