Lyon County Public Health announced Friday it will be following the Governor’s state-wide recovery plan, with a few added restrictions.
While phase one of Governor Laura Kelly’s Ad Astra recovery plan for the state will allow restaurants to reopen their dine-in options so long as specific social distancing guidelines can be maintained, Lyon County Public Health will not be following suit. Dine-in options at local restaurants and self-serve options for fountain drinks and food at local gas stations and convenience stores will be prohibited through phase one’s duration. Phase one will begin on Monday and continue for a minimum 14-day observation period in accordance with the timeline laid out by Governor Kelly Thursday evening.
Lyon County Emergency Manager Jarrod Fell says the reason for the restrictions is due to the county’s COVID-19 case numbers continuing to trend upwards.
Additionally, the county is requesting that all residents, except for children under the age of two, wear some form of face-covering while out in public. The county is also asking all local businesses to require those who enter their buildings to wear a mask or facial covering of some kind.
Fell says coverings can be a cloth mask, bandana or even a scarf. Fell says while the wearing of a mask is not mandatory, he hopes everyone will choose to do so to help limit the potential spread of COVID-19.
Elsewhere across the area, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties have announced they will also be following the governor’s guidelines with no major added restrictions at this time.
The tentative schedule of phases for the governor’s plan will see phase two begin by May 18 and phase three begin on June 1, so long as state health trends are favorable. If all goes according to plan, the official phase-out process could begin by June 15.
