The Greater Emporia Area Disaster Relief Fund continues its busy start to help residents in an eight-county area.
Fund organizers set aside almost $18,000 for donations to non-profit organizations and businesses, and the announcement came during KVOE’s On-Air Chat on Wednesday.
For non-profits:
*Building Blocks gets $1,000
*CASA of the Eighth Judicial District gets $1,800
*Osage Senior Center receives $2,000
*Pioneer Bluffs receives $3,750
For businesses:
*Grand Central Hotel gets $3,750
*Salsa Street Mexican Grill, Score No. 1, Time Travelers and Wagon Wheel each get $1,000
*Trox Gallery and Gifts receives $1,500

This comes at a time when residents and charitable foundations are donating to the fund. Here’s Emporia Community Foundation Director Becky Nurnberg:

Residents are also snapping up the Thank U yard signs to recognize the work of local heroes and contribute to the fund at the same time. Signs are still available for $20 each.
The Greater Emporia Area Disaster Relief Fund is a collaboration involving the Emporia Community Foundation, Emporia Main Street, United Way of the Flint Hills and KVOE. It serves residents in Lyon, Chase, Coffey, Greenwood, Morris, Osage, Wabaunsee and Woodson counties.
