Emporia State University has named its honorees for its annual Women’s History Month celebration.
The Ruth Schillinger Award, named for Emporia State’s first Affirmative Action officer and given for extraordinary contributions to the women of ESU, goes to Dr. Damara Goff Paris, an associate professor of counselor education. Paris’ teaching and research reflects interests in deaf people and people with disabilities. She is currently the president of the American Deafness and Rehabilitation Association.
The Mary Headrick Award, named for a one-time counselor and awarded for helping women reach their full potential, is communication and theater professor Dr. Sheryl Lidzy. She currently serves as a judge in the National Federation of Press Women’s annual speech contest and has been awarded the ESU Presidential Award for Distinguished Service to Diversity.
The Susan B Anthony Scholarship, awarded to a student who “demonstrated the most beneficial input into the growth and education of women on the ESU campus” is Lyrah Wallace, a graduate student in the art therapy and clinical counseling programs. Wallace wants to work with the LGBTQ community after college.
