With hospital restrictions schedule adjustments continuing due to COVID-19 concerns, residents will be pleased to know they can still consult with their physicians in a new way.
Telehealth appointments are now available at Stormont Vail in Emporia allowing residents to see their local physician while adhering to social distancing practices.
Telehealth is defined as the delivery and facilitation of health and health-related services including medical care, provider and patient education, health information services, and self-care via telecommunications and digital communication technologies.
According to Dr. Tim Duncan with Stormont Vail, while the new form of appointment does not allow for the same level of interaction as normal in-person check-ups, it still allows for a wide range of diagnosis and treatment.
Dr. Duncan believes it is likely that even when the coronavirus pandemic begins to ease, the Telehealth option will remain in place allowing patients easier access to their physicians.
Residents wishing to utilize the Telehealth option should contact their local physician to set up an appointment. Residents will need a device with an active camera, such as a phone, laptop or tablet and access to the internet.
