With so much talk of reopening the economy and getting the state and country back to normal as coronavirus impacts continue, the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce is finalizing its own recommendations.
On KVOE’s Talk of Emporia recently, Chamber President and CEO Jeanine McKenna said a Road to Recovery plan has been drafted and will be reviewed by the Chamber Board of Directors on Monday. While not detailing specifics, McKenna says the plan will involve current guidelines from state and federal leaders and guidance for local businesses on several different topics.
Chamber staff are also doing their own internal planning as a foundation to keep helping the local business community.
The Chamber office at the Trusler Business Center, 719 Commercial, has been closed to the public. The Chamber has adapted to the new landscape with an increased social media presence. McKenna says the Chamber has resumed its Coffee and Conversations series. It also held its first virtual Business After Hours on Thursday and is gearing up for its first virtual bingo event next month.
As the Chamber works to keep local dollars going to local businesses, it is also emphasizing its regional partnership with Chambers of Commerce in Lawrence, Manhattan and Topeka. The METL Coalition, as it’s called, is offering free webinars every Thursday with a range of information on coronavirus and other topics. Residents interested in the webinars have to sign up through the Lawrence Chamber’s Facebook page.
Locally, you can still call the Chamber office at 342-1600 for information. You can also go online to www.emporiakschamber.org or find the Chamber on Facebook and Twitter.
