Symphony in the Flint Hills Director Leslie VonHoelten calls the recent decision to cancel the June event “disappointing,” “depressing” and “the right call.”
The potential impact of coronavirus forced organizers to cancel the 2020 show and related activities, set for June 13 in Wabaunsee County. VonHoelten says ticketholders understand the situation.
It’s the second straight year Symphony in the Flint Hills has been canceled after high winds the morning of the 2019 show VonHoelten didn’t give an exact amount, but she says the financial impact of the cancellations has been “heavy.”
Next year’s concert may well be in or around Council Grove as the Symphony in the Flint Hills celebrates the 200th anniversary of the Santa Fe Trail. At this time, it’s unclear if featured performer Bela Fleck will be available next year.
Ticketholders have until May 30 to process refunds if they so choose, but they can also donate the proceeds to help Symphony in the Flint Hills recover financially from the cancellations. Ticketholders wanting to make a tax-deductible donation can call 620-273-8955 or email info@symphonyintheflinthills.org for information.
