Lyon County is well into the “acceleration phase” when it comes to coronavirus test results.
Over 80 positive tests have been announced this week, with 75 since Tuesday. The number reflects the use of 500 test kits and rapid-response test machines from Abbott Laboratories so far this week. Lyon County Public Health Emergency Preparedness Director Jennifer Millbern, a guest on KVOE’s 8:05 am newscast Friday, said Public Health has been busy with its mobile site at Flint Hills Community Health Center.
Millbern is hoping the peak caseload will take place over the next two weeks, but that is to be determined.
As the mobile testing continues, plans are also finalizing for special facilities to house patients at Super 8 and La Quinta.
DCF spokesman Mike Deines says the department will essentially serve as hotel management, ensuring patients have meals available and making sure the facilities are thoroughly cleaned. The Kansas Division of Emergency Management is also in this partnership, and the Kansas Army National Guard is also helping.
So far, there are no patients at the local shelters. Millbern says patients can go to the shelters on a voluntary basis. They would have to follow all quarantine or isolation guidelines while at the shelters.
