Better than $20,000 was given to local businesses and nonprofits as part of action this week by the Greater Emporia Area Disaster Relief Fund.
On KVOE’s On-Air Chat on Wednesday, it was announced the fund granted over $9,000 to four nonprofits:
*$1,500 to Communities in Schools for helping its client base
*$2,000 to CrossWinds for waiving intake fees
*$2,000 to ECKAN Coffey County for help with rent and utilities
*$3,650 to St. Francis Ministries for funding telehealth services for clients
Another $12,000 in grants went to local businesses:
*$1,000 each to Bruffs Sports Bar and Grill and Chi-Em Eats
*$2,000 each to Do-B’s, Granada Coffee Company and Gravel City Roasters
*$4,000 to Radius Brewing

Also pouring in are requests for the Thank U signs recognizing the work of everybody at the front lines of the battle against COVID-19. KVOE General Manager Ron Thomas:
The first allotment of 200 signs has been claimed and another allotment could be available as soon as Friday. In addition, at least one person with a fund established at the Emporia Community Foundation has authorized a $10,000 transfer to the Disaster Relief Fund. The Greater Emporia Area Disaster Relief Fund is a collaboration involving the Emporia Community Foundation, Emporia Main Street, United Way of the Flint Hills and KVOE. It serves residents in Lyon, Chase, Coffey, Greenwood, Morris, Osage, Wabaunsee and Woodson counties.
