One hundred fifty gallons of diesel fuel went unused after a crash near Emporia’s eastern city limits Wednesday.
Emporia Fire and Lyon County deputies responded to the Interstate 35 offramp at East US Highway 50 around noon after a semi crashed. Fire Battalion Chief Eron Steinlage says the wreck ruptured one of the power unit’s saddle tanks. The tank was full and all the diesel fuel spilled out.
Nobody was injured in the crash. The semi’s driver was northbound on the Interstate and went off the highway for currently undetermined reasons.
Steinlage says Emporia Fire contained the spill and then used booms to soak up the diesel. Local authorities also reported the incident to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
