So what is a coronavirus cluster?
Lyon County Health Officer Renee Hively tells KVOE News there are several different components.
A cluster can be as small as two confirmed patients, and Hively says that has to do with the fact that much is still unknown about coronavirus.
Clusters can develop in 24 hours to a week, depending on how fast a situation progresses, so Hively says Public Health is doing its best to monitor the “hot spots” as they develop.
On Monday, Public Health announced clusters at Tyson Foods, Simmons Pet Food, Hostess, Detroit Reman and Heritage Pentecostal Church. During Monday’s Newsmaker segment, Hively also mentioned Lyon County had received three rapid-response testing stations from Abbott Laboratories and the capability to test 500 patients. Testing started Monday with close to 10 patients, six of whom tested positive and were announced as part of the Public Health daily Situation Report.
Hively says testing initially is focused on Tyson but will go to the other hot spots upon request. She says the number at Tyson will go up, but that has to do with the increased testing and not because the facility has more coronavirus than other facilities in town.
