Both the Emporia Municipal Airport and Coffey County Airport are receiving federal stimulus money.
Both airports are receiving $30,000 as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security, or CARES Act. This provides $10 billion in aid to eligible airports and essentially means the federal government is fully funding discretionary grants through the Airport Improvement Program. Under normal circumstances, qualifying airports would have to contribute a matching percentage.
Funds should be available later this month. More guidance for airports will be coming in the next few days through the Federal Aviation Administration.
