We escaped any severe weather risk Sunday, but cold and wind came to fruition as predicted.
Wind gusts were between 40 and 50 mph from early afternoon until shortly before midnight at the Emporia Municipal Airport, and the National Weather Service also noted gusts as high as 55 mph between the city and the airport Sunday evening.
No significant damage was reported.
Meanwhile, overnight temperatures went below 30 degrees as expected. High temperatures will go to the upper 40s today, but sub-freezing temperatures are expected again Monday night. Freeze warnings return for Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties from 11 pm Monday to 10 am Tuesday. Chase County is in a separate warning from 1 am to 10 am Tuesday.
