It took about two hours for Emporia and Americus firefighters to put out a grass fire between the two cities Friday afternoon.
Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Conley says the controlled burn on Road 210 about a quarter-to-half-mile west of Road F went out of control in breezy conditions. The fire ultimately burned about 100 acres before it was put out.
No injuries were reported. No structures were damaged.
Saturday will be a warm and breezy day with a high of 72 and a high fire danger. There is a chance of showers and storms, including a marginal severe weather risk, by late afternoon.

Emporia and Americus firefighters have been battling a grass fire almost directly between the two cities.
Emporia Fire’s Lyon County District 4 was called out as mutual aid for Americus firefighters around 3:15 pm Friday after a grass fire developed near Roads 210 and F. There is currently no word on whether anybody has been injured or any structures damaged.
