That’s expediting the process.
Less than a day after receiving paperwork from Governor Laura Kelly’s legal team, the Kansas Supreme Court says it will have an extraordinary Saturday morning session to hear oral arguments in Kelly’s lawsuit against the Legislative Coordinating Council. Kelly announced the lawsuit during her news conference Thursday, saying the board’s decision to overturn her executive order capping attendance at church gatherings and funerals violated both state law and the state Constitution.
The Coordinating Council’s decision followed an opinion from Attorney General Derek Schmidt, which said the executive order violated the Constitution.
Electronic oral arguments will start at 9 am. The Supreme Court says it will make arrangements so residents can watch the proceedings online.
