The overnight freeze developed as expected.
Temperatures fell below freezing shortly before 5 am in Emporia as cold air continued to filter across the KVOE listening area. Freeze warnings continue until 9 am for Lyon and most surrounding counties and until 8 am for the exceptions, Chase and Greenwood counties.
Temperatures climb to the low 60s Friday, and for most of the Easter weekend we don’t have to worry about freezing issues — but there is a fair amount of weather to discuss the next few days. In fact, there is a high fire danger again Friday, mainly for low humidity levels even with low wind speeds and grasses leaving winter dormancy behind. We also have a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms Saturday afternoon and evening, with hail and high winds the main concerns.
The freeze risk returns for Sunday night as overnight temperatures are expected in the mid-20s, and the current forecast has overnight lows in upper 20s to near 30 degrees for both Monday and Tuesday nights.
