The Lyon County Disaster Relief Fund is broadening its footprint and changing its name in the process.
Launched less than three weeks ago, the relief fund is now supporting the emergency needs of residents, businesses and non-profit agencies in Chase, Coffey, Greenwood, Morris, Osage, Wabaunsee and Woodson counties as the Greater Emporia Area Disaster Relief Fund. This move reflects the original partnership between Emporia Main Street, the Emporia Community Foundation and KVOE as well as the addition of the United Way of the Flint Hills.
United Way Director Mickey Edwards was pleased to see the initial partnership. She’s also pleased to help expand that effort.
Main Street Director Casey Woods says it’s important to help both businesses and nonprofits, which the fund will do.
Community Foundation Director Becky Nurnberg says the funds will keep nonprofits strong, which in turn will help residents.
KVOE General Manager Ron Thomas says the ultimate goal is to lift the community through tough times.
Sauder Enterprises Chief Operating Officer Erren Harter says it’s also important to have funds readily available so needs can be meet quickly.
All donations at this time will be used to help respond to coronavirus. Ventures to meet basic needs of people or businesses most affected will receive priority. The fund will remain in place after the COVID-19 pandemic eases.
