The Emporia Fire Department’s hazmat team responded to a gas spill on the Kansas Turnpike Tuesday afternoon.
According to Battalion Chief Tony Fuller crews were called to the Emporia service area at mile marker 133 around 1:20 pm. Fuller says an underground diesel storage tank overflowed and spilled roughly 100 gallons of diesel fuel into the service area’s parking lot.
Fuller says the hazmat team contained the fuel with oil dry and sand and the parking lot did not need to be closed. No injuries or damages were reported.
