The latest local event to fall victim to the coronavirus pandemic: the Dirty Kanza.
Operations manager LeLan Dains says the DK will be postponed from the end of May to Sept. 10-13. An online statement says the decision was “not made lightly,” but organizers have been working to make “the most prudent decision for all our athletes, volunteers, sponsors, vendors and members of the Emporia community.”
Riders have the option of participating with the new schedule, deferring to the 2021 event at no extra cost or receiving a refund. The series of races were on track to bring nearly 4,000 riders from around the world to Emporia to participate.
Numerous community events, fundraisers and the Glass Blown Open disc golf tournament have had to be postponed or canceled due to COVID-19.
Dains will have further details about the postponement announcement during KVOE’s 7:05 am newscast. Click here for additional information through Dirty Kanza.
