Winter returned overnight to the Flint Hills, and it’s being a bit stubborn in leaving.
Light freezing rain and sleet are possible for most of the area now until mid-afternoon. The National Weather Service has adjusted winter weather advisories for Lyon, Coffey, Osage and Wabaunsee counties so they end at 2 pm. Greenwood County is in a separate advisory until 1 pm.

10:45 am Friday: Coffey County added to winter weather advisory; separate advisory issued for Greenwood County
Wintery conditions continue to roll through the KVOE listening area Friday.
Coffey County has been added to a previous advisory until noon Friday which also includes Lyon, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties. Meanwhile, Greenwood County has been placed into a separate advisory set to expire at 1 pm Friday.
An advisory for Chase County has been allowed to expire. A mix of freezing mist, freezing drizzle and sleet has led to some travel issues across the listening area with injury crashes being reported on the Kansas Turnpike and Interstate-35 Friday morning.
Late-afternoon temperatures will struggle to the low 40s, much cooler than Thursday, when we climbed to 70 degrees. The current forecast has temperatures climbing through the weekend and back into the 70s by Monday.

6 am Friday: Winter weather advisory involves Lyon County, most surrounding counties Friday morning
Winter has returned to the Flint Hills, if only for a limited time.
Light freezing rain and sleet are possible for most of the area up until around lunchtime. The National Weather Service has issued winter weather advisories for Lyon, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties until noon, while Chase County is in a separate advisory until 10 am.
The Weather Service says slick spots are possible, especially on elevated surfaces like bridges and overpasses. So far, there have been no reports of travel issues across the area.
