6 individuals with connections to either Emporia State or College of Emporia are on this years ballot for induction to the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame.
That includes former Lady Hornet basketball players Emily Bloss Carpenter and Tara Holloway Churchhill.
Emily Bloss Carpenter was the NCAA DII player of the year. At Wellsville High School she was a All-State basketball player and a 4 time state 400 meter champion.
Tara Holloway Churchill was the 2000 NCAA DII player of the year. At Moundridge High School she was an All-State basketball player and 3 time state champion in the the triple jump.
Former Emporia State Track and Field athlete Heather Leverington Dotterer.
Heather was a 5 time national champion in the shot put, 3 times indoor and 2 times outdoor. She was the 2002 NCAA Kansas Woman of the Year.
Former Emporia State mens basketball player Brian Robinson.
Brian was a 3 time All-American and the school record holder for points scored in a career.
Former Emporia State football Coach Harold “Bud” Elliott.
Elliott was 17-12-1 as the head coach of the Hornets.
and Former College of Emporia Football player Dick Switzer for his accomplishments as a high school coach.
Switzer led Fighting Presbies to KCAC titles in 1962 and 1963. Teacher and coach at Hunter, Sylvan Grove, Natoma, Bennington, Mankato, and Concordia. Coached cross country, football, track, boys and girls basketball, as both head coach and assistant coach. Coached Bennington boys to state track championship in 1977. Coached Concordia girls to state basketball championships in 1985 and 1986, including a 47-game winning streak.
The induction for this years class is set for October 4th.
The Kansas Sports Hall of Fame includes 297 of the state’s greatest sports legends.
