An Emporia woman has died and three others were brought to Newman Regional Health for treatment after a crash outside Olpe late Tuesday night.
Lyon County Deputy Zach Shafer says 23-year-old Serena Carolina Maria Tovar was northbound in the 600 block of Kansas Highway 99, or approaching Olpe, when her car left the highway, went into a ditch and rolled several times.
A passenger, 22-year-old Cynthia Flores-Rosas, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was not wearing her seatbelt.
Tovar was taken to Newman Regional Health with apparently serious injuries. A passenger, 24-year-old Alondra Elizara Perez, suffered apparently serious injuries. A third passenger, 22-year-old Bethany Clarisse Torres, had apparently non-life-threatening injuries.
Tovar and Perez were wearing seatbelts while Torres was not.
It’s unclear why Tovar’s car left the highway. Deputies continue their investigation at this time.
