Technology from Emporia State University soon will be available to help healthcare professionals dealing with coronavirus.
Several departments, including Nursing, Learning Technologies and Student Wellness, are working on several collaborative efforts using 3D technology. Professor Rob Gibson, Nursing faculty member Kari Hess and Student Wellness Director Mary McDaniel-Anschutz are creating about 10 tight-fitting medical masks per day. The masks can use special filters or a cut-up regular mars can be used for that purpose. They can also be soaked in alcohol or bleach for reuse.
In addition, 3D technology is being used to create ventilator splitters so, in theory, four people can use a ventilator at a given time. Hands-free door openers are also being created.
