As Lyon County’s coronavirus case count has risen slightly, county officials are recommending residents follow safety guidelines issued earlier this week at the local level when it comes to stay-home orders.
Lyon County Public Health has issued a statement “strongly encouraging” residents to follow the county’s stay-home plan as issued March 26, saying it provides a higher level of protection against spreading COVID-19 than the governor’s statewide stay-home order announced Saturday and effective Monday through at least April 19. There are several key differences in the documents, including:
*Lyon County’s order limits gatherings to immediate family. The governor’s order sets the maximum at 10 people, including church and funeral services
*Lyon County’s order temporarily ends carryout service for restaurants. The state order allows carryout.
Following the county statement instead of the governor’s order would be done voluntarily. The state order supersedes all similar rules from cities and counties announced over the past three weeks.
Public Health also directs people with questions about the new statewide order to email keff@ks.gov.
Meanwhile, the latest county case is a woman in her 70s who did not travel, according to Public Health’s daily Situation Report. This puts the Lyon County number at six, above the four listed by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment earlier Saturday.
