Broadband and utility companies have been making several adjustments for their staff as coronavirus continues to spread. Now ValuNet FIBER is halting on-site technician visits.
On KVOE’s 8:05 am newscast Monday, President and Managing Partner Rick Tidwell said it’s a move to keep the technicians and other staff safe.
ValuNet had already limited office availability and installed a payment dropbox recently to meet the increased demand over the past two-plus weeks. Tidwell says ValuNet took in about double its normal weekly sign-ups last week and did its best to get those handled last week. ValuNet will continue taking sign-up requests. Customers are also told not to move their current setup arrangements. Customers with troubleshooting needs are urged to call the office for a phone consultation.
Sparklight, Emporia’s other main TV and Internet company, says its technicians are out in the field but they are following strict guidelines to protect staff and customer safety.
Other utilities, like Kansas Gas, are asking additional screening questions before sending technicians out to customers.
