The Kansas National Guard is ready to do its part to assist in mitigating the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic statewide.
The National Guard has already begun offering limited assistance to state authorities. According to Adjutant General and director of the Kansas Division of Emergency Management Maj. Gen. Lee Tafanelli, there are around 20 National Guard personnel — seven soldiers and 14 airmen — providing logistics support to KDEM.
National Guard personnel are working directly with the State Emergency Operations Center and the Joint Operations Center in order to “prepare to support local authorities.” The National Guard currently has 6,500 Guardsmen and Women throughout the state of Kansas.
Kansas National Guard Command Sgt. Major Steve Harmon will offer more insight into ongoing efforts during KVOE’s Newsmaker 3 segment Monday morning.
