Lyon County Public Health has released new information regarding symptoms and preventive measures for COVID-19.
Lyon County Public Health announced these changes through a press release Friday. The new recommendations and information includes:
1. Persons aged 20-54 have been identified as a vulnerable population, in addition to the
previously known individuals of 60+ years of age, as well as those with other chronic
illnesses.
2. Children and young adults who have recovered from COVID-19 are showing lung
scarring and potential long-term effects, like breathing issues with daily activity.
3. ‘Fever’ has now been classified as 100 degrees, or above.
4. New regulations have developed regarding when to return to daily activities for those quarantined and/or isolated:
a. 72 hours fever-free, without medication
b. Resolution of ALL symptoms
c. 7 days since the onset of symptoms.
5. Studies are finding that it is in the best interest of those with symptoms to avoid Ibuprofen to control fever and aches.
Lyon County Public Health Officer Renee Hively says there has been conflicting information recently regarding the avoidance of Ibuprofen.
Hively believes the conflict of information stems from a lack of knowledge on how the virus acts. She says it is likely that until we have a more concrete understanding of the virus there could be additional conflicting information which surfaces in coming months.
Additionally, Hively says the change in time from when individuals may return to daily activities following quarantine from 24 to 72 hours has to do with the increased number of positive cases and the decrease in available tests, not only in Kansas but across the nation.
At this time Lyon County Public Health is asking residents to continue practicing social distancing as it is currently one of the best ways to prevent the spread of the virus. Social distancing measures include keeping a distance of 6 feet from others, limiting large groups of people coming together, closing buildings, and canceling events.
