Emporia State University is now closing out the spring semester with remote-only classes, and the ongoing coronavirus situation is the reason why.
ESU’s Executive Policy Group sent an email to staff and students late Tuesday. Spokesperson Gwen Larson says this will eliminate any confusion for students or staff on how things will move forward.
Students will receive full credit for completed courses if they meet instructor class requirements. However, all commencement ceremonies will be canceled, including the nurse pinning ceremony. Residence halls will now be closed for the rest of the semester, with the process beginning Saturday and ending April 1. Some international students or students in exceptional circumstances will be allowed to remain in their respective halls. ESU plans to refund room and board fees on a prorated basis to students living in dorms.
In addition, Corky’s Cupboard will have pre-packaged bags of food available in the Student Wellness Center during normal business hours but students will be limited to one bag per week. ESU is also setting up virtual counseling if needed. Staff are encouraged to work remotely and limited staff will be on campus until further notice.
