If you are planning to visit patients at Newman Regional Health, your access will be extremely limited, thanks to the coronavirus.
On Monday, the hospital directed people to use Entrance F on the east side of the facility and either curtailed or halted access to several areas inside the building. Chief Executive Officer Bob Wright says the decision was made to protect patients, notably the inpatient sector that is largely elderly, and also to protect staff.
Flint Hills Community Health Center, meanwhile, is restricting drug representatives, and it’s ending community meetings until further notice. it’s also limiting immunizations to tetanus shots until further notice. Public Information Officer Verlin Conkle says the public has handled the adjustments well so far.
Both Newman Regional Health and Flint Hills Community Health Center have closed their billing offices to the public until further notice. Patients will have to pay bills online, by mail or by calling their billing offices.
The actions by Emporia’s main medical facilities follow Governor Laura Kelly’s executive order Monday limiting public gatherings to under 50 people and area senior care facilities limiting visitation since early last week.
