Coronavirus numbers in Kansas aren’t nearly to the levels that they are in other states. That’s not stopping local education, government and sports administrators from announcing plans for the virus — and, in some cases, significant adjustments in operations.
Emporia State University is canceling its face-to-face classes all next week, including the main campus and its remote locations. It is also going fully online with classwork starting March 23 and continuing until further notice. All campus events and programs are canceled until at least April 10. All ESU athletics events on campus, including track and field, baseball, softball and tennis, will be held without spectators. Social distancing practices — gatherings limited to a maximum of eight people — will take place at all internal campus meetings.
Spokesperson Gwen Larson says the H1N1 virus from 2009 helped Emporia State’s coronavirus plan.
