Trial is set to begin next week in the case of a man accused of robbing an Emporia convenience store over a year ago.
Proceedings are scheduled to begin Monday in the case of 44-year-old Harold Stewart after he was granted a mistrial by Judge Merlin Wheeler in January. Stewart had grown dissatisfied with defense counsel Steve Atherton after trial began in mid-January leading to the request for a new attorney.
Rick Meier has been appointed as Stewart’s new defense lawyer. The case has been transferred to Judge Lee Fowler.
Trial gets underway at 9 am Monday with jury selection. Stewart is accused of robbing the Max’s BP convenience store in downtown Emporia last February. He faces one count of aggravated robbery in the case.
