A Coffey County man and Osage County man have been arrested on suspicion of killing a man from Vermilion.
18-year-old Jeremy Penix II of Melvern and 47-year-old Jefferson Goad of Waverly are charged with first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, conspiracy, arson and interference with law enforcement in the death of 83-year-old Donald McLaughlin on Jan. 24.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation led the investigation with help from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Office of the Kansas Fire Marshal, the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism and sheriff’s offices in Coffey, Osage, Jackson and Shawnee counties.
Penix is currently being housed in Washington County while Goad is confined in Marshall County.
