As concerns of Coronavirus continue to dominate headlines, local school districts are beginning to take precautions for if a local outbreak were to occur.
This includes USD 253 Emporia Public Schools who announced in a press release Tuesday they are “taking precautions and monitoring information updates” as it pertains to the coronavirus. At this time, the district is strictly following guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control as they continue to monitor the situation.
As developments arise, the district plans to revise its strategy and respond accordingly. As there is no vaccine for coronavirus at this time, the district is encouraging students and staff to practice good preventative measures to help reduce the spread of the respiratory illness.
This includes
* Washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, before eating, after using the restroom and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing into your hand.
* Avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
* Avoiding close contact with people who are sick.
* Staying home when you are sick.
* Cleaning and disinfecting frequently-touched objects and surfaces.
The district also reminds students and families to continue observing the USD 253 policy that students must be fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication before they may return to school.
