Weather permitting, you’ll see a lot of orange cones on the Kansas Turnpike later this month.
The Turnpike Authority says it is either starting or resuming a host of projects next week. Communications Specialist Amanda Miller tells KVOE News these projects all fit into the KTA’s Long-Term Needs Study announced five years ago.
Work is resuming on a project that has work just north and south of Emporia. North of town, ramp and drainage improvements are coming to the Emporia service area. South of town, bridge work is expected near mile marker 124.7 and 125.2, or two to three miles southwest of the Emporia tollgate. Single-lane traffic, 65-mph speeds and 12-foot lane width restrictions are planned.
Also in Lyon County, bridge redecking and widening is coming at mile marker 143.1, about four miles southwest of the Admire-Council Grove exit. Drainage improvements are coming at mile markers 151.5 and 153.8, so four to seven miles northeast of the Admire-Council Grove interchange.
Chase County will have a bridge redecked and widened near mile marker 100, three miles northeast of the Matfield Green service area and 27 miles southwest of the Emporia gate. Osage County, meanwhile, will have the Kansas Highway 31 bridge nearly 30 miles northeast of Emporia redecked and raised.
In all work zones, drivers can expect single-lane traffic, reduced speeds and narrow lanes. Updates are online at www.KanDrive.org and www.ksturnpike.com.
