Lyon County Commissioners are pleased with the opportunities for county staffers to continue increasing their health and physical activity.
This was the sentiment shared by commissioners during their weekly action session as county human resources director Janice Huffman presented an update on the county’s participation in the 2020 Walk Kansas event. According to Huffman, the county currently has four teams signed up with one hybrid team in place.
Huffman says the total cost of each team, including fees, t-shirts and other costs currently comes out to just over $500. Commissioners gave instructions for costs to not exceed $600.
During the presentation, commissioners Rollie Martin and Scott Briggs commended the efforts put forth to ensure county staff have as many opportunities as possible to remain healthy and active.
Separately, Huffman also presented an update on the county’s recent use of TicketsatWork, a corporate entertainment benefits provider, offering exclusive discounts, special offers and access to preferred seating and tickets to top attractions, theme parks, shows, sporting events, movie tickets, hotels and much more. Huffman reports the county has attained 25 percent of its sign up goal and has received an abundance of positive feedback from employees utilizing the service.
Huffman was also originally scheduled to present a proactive approach to maintaining potable water for employees. That item was eventually removed from the agenda to allow more time for the collection of information.
In other business commissioners also approved a low bid from Welborn Sales, Inc.of $24,450.48 for aluminized corrugated metal pipe culverts. Additionally, approval was given for the purchase of a new Bobcat HB980 Hydraulic Breaker from White Star in the amount of $6,839.
Commissioners also held two executive sessions. The Lyon County Commission will reconvene for their weekly action session at 9 am next Thursday inside the Lyon County Courthouse.
