The Lyon County Emergency Communications Department is reminding county residents to call in their controlled burns, both before they start and after they are finished.
Director Roxanne Van Gundy says residents conducting controlled burns need to have their valid burn permit number ready at both times along with a phone number in case authorities need to call back.
Van Gundy also reminds Lyon County residents to call 911 if controlled burns get out of control, but she also reminds residents that calls to dispatchers increase tremendously during grass fire season — so staffers may ask callers to go on hold or repeat their information.
