Emporia State University has filled its Dean of the Teachers College position.
Dr. Joan Brewer, an ESU alum and the interim dean, was officially promoted Monday after leading the department on an interim basis since the retirement of longtime dean Ken Weaver.
A licensed teacher in Kansas and a certified exercise physiologist through the American College of Sports Medicine, Brewer brings nearly 30 years of experience to the position. Before serving as interim dean, she was an associated dean for the college, a department head for Health, Physical Education and Recreation and a HPER faculty member since 2001.
Brewer received an associate of arts degree from Highland Community College before receiving bachelor’s and master’s degrees from ESU and her doctorate from Kansas State University.
