Sunshine and beautiful music made for the perfect combination Sunday as the St. David’s Society of Kansas held their 132nd annual St. David’s Day celebration concert.
The annual concert featured a wonderful selection of hymns and special music, including the Welsh hymn My Redeemer performed by the St. David’s Society Choir.
The concert began with the singing of both the US and Welsh national anthems and concluded with the hymn “God Be With You Until We Meet Again.”
At the conclusion of the concert, tea and bara brith bread, two traditional Welsh refreshments, were served as attendees and choir members alike gathered for a time of fellowship. Celebrations of St. David became prominent in the local area, specifically Lyon, Coffey and Osage counties, in the mid 1800’s after being heavily settled by Welsh immigrants.
St. David is the patron saint of Wales and was considered a warrior, priest and teacher. For more information on St. David and Welsh history, follow the St. David’s Society of Kansas on Facebook.
