Emporia Public Schools says it’s cooperating with local authorities after terminating a staffer contract at its board meeting Wednesday night.
Community Relations Director Lyndel Landgren tells KVOE News the decision to terminate the contract resulted from a concern brought to the district administration’s attention last week. Landgren did not release additional information, but a document on the district’s website lists Tyler Bosiljevac as the teacher who was fired. While not listing specifics, the document cites several reasons for the termination:
*Failing to demonstrate sound judgment
*Violating the district’s sexual harassment policy
*Violating the district’s policy on staff-student relations
*Violating the district’s ethics policy
*Violating the district’s policy on providing a safe learning environment
*Failing to maintain a positive learning environment
Landgren says all concerns brought to the district “are taken seriously and promptly investigated consistent with board policy.”
Emporia Police have confirmed an open and active investigation relating to a teacher at the school but have not offered other specifics with the inquiry ongoing.
Parents of students at Emporia High are encouraged to call the school’s counseling department at 341-2365 if their children need support.
Bosiljevac was a full-time teacher for USD 253 for 14 years. He has the right to appeal his termination if he files the proper paperwork within 15 days.
