Early indications are the heavy rainfall from Sunday and Monday led to isolated issues in Chase and Greenwood counties.
High water led to a boil water advisory for Chase County Rural Water District No. 1 when part of a streambank washed out a 4-inch water main near 240th and X. Workers are flushing the system as they await a sample packet from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
Affected residents still need to boil water for 60 seconds before preparing food or drinking the water until the advisory is lifted. Other tips are online at KVOE.com.
Meanwhile, damage to Greenwood County’s gravel road network and other infrastructure is minimal, according to Emergency Management Director Levi Vinson. He says the worst of the damage is around Fall River Lake and Toronto Lake. He also says some low-water bridges remain impassable as of Tuesday afternoon.
Both counties received up to 2.5 inches of rainfall, causing a flood watch for both counties and a flood warning for Greenwood County.
