The Kansas Corporation Commission has drastically reduced a rate increase request from Atmos Energy.
Atmos had originally requested a $7.2 million net revenue increase, which would have bumped monthly residential bills by over $4.30 a month in the winter and around $3.40 in the summer. The KCC’s order increases residential rates by 35 cents in the winter and 11 cents in the summer. It also calls for a net revenue decrease of around $224,000, which KCC says would better align rates between customer classes and limit the commercial sales class subsidizing the residential class.
Atmos also had its return on equity proposal trimmed from 10.25 percent to 9.1 percent as KCC said the proposal ran counter to downward trends across the country, and its request to create a System Integrity Program denied for now — although KCC said Atmos could make adjustments and resubmit a proposal.
Atmos currently served over 135,000 customers in Kansas, including residents of Chase, Coffey, Greenwood and Morris counties.
