The Emporia State womens basketball team picked up a big road win Saturday, out scoring Central Oklahoma 74-66.
Emporia State never trailed during the game. Their biggest lead was by 17 points in the 3rd quarter. Central Oklahoma made a run and cut the lead to 1 in the 4th quarter. Emporia State Coach Toby Wynn said there were 3 big keys to winning the game.
Tre’Zure Jobe scored a game high 23 points. She now holds the record for most points scored by a freshman in a season at 443.
Fredricka Sheats added 14 points. The Lady Hornets are now 20-6 for the season and 13-4 in the MIAA, holding onto 3rd place in the MIAA standings.
Central Oklahoma won the mens game 75-65. Emporia State Coach Craig Doty said they gave away to many extra opportunities.
Emporia State led by as many as 6 points in the first half and trailed by 14 points in the 2nd. They did cut the deficit to 4 with four minutes to play, but that’s as close as they would get.
Gage McGuire and Keyon Thomas finished with 13 points to lead Emporia State in scoring. Jumah’Ri Turner added 12 points.
The Emporia State basketball teams will close out the regular season with two home games. Thursday they host Northeastern State and next Saturday the host Rogers State.
