Northern Heights collected back-to-back wins in area high school basketball action Friday evening.
The Lady Wildcats never trailed, despite multiple efforts by the Lady Jaguars, en-route to their 52-35 victory over Hartford.
Despite Hartford managing to tie the game in the first, and come within one-point of overtaking the lead in the second, Northern Heights would maintain control to take a 24-17 lead into the half. The closest Hartford would come in the second half was six points as Northern Heights took advantage of multiple second-chance opportunities to pick up the victory.
Northern Heights had three players finish double figures and were led by junior Caleigh Smart with 15. Senior Khylee Massey ended the night with 12 points and junior Emma Barnett had 11.
Coach Lanny Massey says he would have liked a better first half, but a win is a win.
Hartford was led in scoring by junior Taylor Kelley with 11 points.
In the boy’s game, a 30-point first quarter by the Wildcats would give them a lead that would never waiver en-route to a 56-20 win over Hartford.
After building a dominating 45-13 lead at the half, Northern Heights would hold Hartford to just 7 points total in the second half as they picked up their 15th win of the season. The Wildcats were led in scoring by senior Tee Preisner with 15 points. Sophomore Braden Heins ended the night with 13 points and senior Cameron Heiman had 10.
Coach Jacob Lang was able to rotate through his entire bench during the game which he says gave his starters a good rest as they prepare for a long stretch of games in the coming days.
Hartford was led in scoring by sophomore Aiden Goodman with 7 points. With the win, Northern Heights now improves to 15-2 as Hartford falls to 4-16.
