Lyon County Sheriff Jeff Cope is the latest Lyon County Department head to file for re-election this year.
Cope has served as Lyon County Sheriff since 2010 when he was appointed to the position following the retirement of Gary Eichorn after spending time as an Emporia Police Officer, Lyon County Deputy and director of Lyon County Courthouse Security. Cope says he enjoys serving Lyon County both because of the residents he serves and the individuals he serves with.
Cope is seeking his third full term in office and now joins County Clerk Tammy Vopat and County Treasurer Sharon Gaede as having filed. County Attorney Marc Goodman has announced his plans for re-election but has yet to file.
Register of Deeds Wendy Weiss is the only incumbent to neither file or announce a re-election bid at this time. For the Lyon County Commission, Third District Republican Rollie Martin filed last month and is currently running unopposed.
Three Republicans — Robert McClelland, Phil Mott and Doug Peck — have all filed to replace long-time Second District Commissioner Dan Slater who announced he will not be seeking re-election.
