Former Kansas Secretary of State and 2018 candidate for Kansas Governor Kris Kobach visited Emporia Tuesday evening to speak at the Kansans for Constitutional Integrity meeting and present his bid for the U.S. Senate to local constituents.
The meeting inside the Lyon County Courthouse Annex lasted a lengthy three hours with Kobach interacting with the crowd over a wide variety of topics concerning Constitutional matters at the state and national level, the state of federal politics, and issues surrounding Kansas government – to name just a few.
Kobach is among a crowded field of Republicans – notably U.S. Representative Roger Marshall and Kansas Senate President Susan Wagle – seeking to fill Senator Pat Roberts’ seat after he retires this year. Kobach says his consistent record of staunch conservative views differentiates him from the other Republicans.
On the other side of the political spectrum, Democrats also have candidates vying for the soon-to-be-open Senate seat. Kansas Senator Barbara Bollier and Manhattan City Commissioner Usha Reddi are two such Democrat hopefuls. Kobach refers to his experience in previous state-wide elections to set himself apart from all other contenders in the race.
Kobach says his campaign has been doing well since his announcement on July 8, 2019. He reports that certain polls have him leading the Republicans at 40% points with Marshall coming in next at 23%.
