The Emporia State women never trailed in a 84-60 win over Northeastern State Saturday. The Emporia State men were out scored by Northeastern State 69-67.
The Emporia State women took a 1-0 lead on a made free-throw after an administrative technical on Northeastern and the Lady Hornets never trailed. They led 22-12 after the first quarter, 50-29 at halftime. They would lead by 30 in the 4th quarter before settling for a 24 point win. Mollie Mounsey led the way with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Morgan Lauden finished with 18 points.
Karsen Schultz added 13 points. With the win the Lady Hornets are now 19-5 for the season and 12-3 in the MIAA.
The Emporia State men overcame an 18 point 2nd half deficit to take a 65-63 lead. They were leading 67-66 when Northeastern States Kendrick Thompson, who finished with a game high 28 points, hit a 3point basket with 11 seconds to play. Emporia State had a shot rim out at the end. Emporia State trailed 29-28 at halftime but was scoreless for the first 4:50 of the 2nd and fell behind 46-28. Justin Williams led the charge finishing with 18 points.
Jumah’Ri Turner scored 12 points, all in the 2nd half. Mason Thiessen finished with 10 points all in the 2nd half. The Hornet men fall to 10-14 for the season ad 4-11 in the MIAA.
The Emporia State men and women play at Newman Thursday.
