Newman Regional Health is welcoming the community to a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house this week.
The ribbon-cutting Thursday is for the reconfigured Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit on the hospital’s second floor. Chief Executive Officer Bob Wright says this reflects an expansion from seven beds to 10. Demand had declined to less than three patients a day in 2014 but has been increasing since then.
The ribbon-cutting and open house are from 11:30 am to 1 pm.
Inpatient rehab includes different therapy categories, including occupational, physical, speech and language.
The ribbon-cutting comes as the hospital is nearing the start of a major renovation of the former emergency department space in the southeast corner of the facility — and nearing the completion of another renovation project.
Outpatient physical therapy will come over from the Newman Therapy Building at 1024 West 12th with that building no longer suitable for the hospital’s needs.
In other topics, Wright says traffic at ExpressCare is up about 35 percent since it moved from Flinthills Mall at the start of last year. He also says new anesthesia machines purchased in part by last year’s Denim and Diamonds fundraiser are now installed and being utilized.
