Kansas City Chiefs fans have had the time of their lives this week.
First off, the Chiefs won the Super Bowl for the first time in 50 years on Sunday. And on Wednesday, hundreds of thousands of fans — including a healthy contingent from Emporia and nearby communities — partied like there was no tomorrow at the Super Bowl parade.
Shawn McGee took his mom up to Kansas City — leaving town around 4:30 am and getting to a free bus zone in Olathe around 7 am. After getting to KC, McGee went straight went to the rally point at Union Station and stayed there for about 10 hours until everything ended. He likened the experience to Disneyland, “where all your dreams come true.”
Having said that…
Jesse Dains of Americus said the atmosphere was “crazy” from before he stepped off a tour bus to after the formal celebration at Union Station. Once everything shifted to Union Station, Dains and some friends were actually near a monument — some distance away from the main stage — so they shifted closer to a big-screen TV to enjoy the proceedings there.
Both McGee and Dains say the experience was “everything you could wish for” and they both say they plan to be part of the official celebration if the Chiefs win another Super Bowl next year.
