Sewer relining continues this week in downtown Emporia.
Crews have been working the last two weeks injecting a special lining to extend the lifespan of sanitary sewer lines downtown. This has meant several short-term shutdowns of water service for certain downtown businesses, and the process continues this week with three alley work zones outlined by the City of Emporia and Emporia Main Street:
*The 900 block between Commercial and Mechanic
*The 900 block between Constitution and Merchant
*The 400 block between Commercial and Merchant
The current plan involves night-time shutdowns of water service for several nearby areas from Monday through at least Wednesday, weather permitting:
*Feb. 3: Commercial Street east side between Eighth and Ninth; Merchant Street east side between Eighth and 12th
*Feb. 4: Commercial Street east side between Sixth and Seventh; Merchant Street east side between Fifth and Sixth
*Feb. 5: Market Street east side between Fifth and SIxth; Mechanic Street east side between Fifth and Sixth
Main Street says businesses listed as impacted this week will receive a call from the contractor with a basic schedule and what are being called “appropriate internal procedures.”
